Colorând griul/Colouring the grey cuprinde în 240 de pagini bogat ilustrate lucrările a șapte artiști vizuali români care și-au lăsat amprenta asupra evoluției artei contemporane din România ultimilor ani.

Însoțind un proiect selectat în cadrul Bienalei Internaționale de Artă Contemporană de la Moscova din 2011, albumul este o lectură obligatorie pentru toți cei interesați de tendințele artei românești actuale și de modul în care acestea sunt asimilate de scenă artistică internațională.

Colorând griul/Colouring the grey este rezultatul a cinci ani de căutare, documentare, monitorizare şi promovare a celui de-al doilea val de artişti contemporani emergenţi din România, aşa cum îi numeşte curatorul proiectului, Cosmin Nasui, în prezentarea volumului. Pornind de la succesul şcolii realiste a griurilor din Europa de Est, proiectul îşi propune să inventarieze, să comenteze şi să pună în context opera a şapte artişti contemporani români care au abordat griul în lucrările lor: Ana Maria Micu, Dragoş Burlacu, Francisc Chiuariu, Cătălin Petrişor, Bogdan Raţa, Aurel Tar, Bela Zoltan.
Griul poate fi considerat o caracteristică a artei contemporane româneşti, precum şi o culoare de tranziţie de la comunism la capitalism, o stare de spirit dominată de confuzie, un simbol al întregii societăţi, în căutarea identităţii. Această preferinţă denotă o alegere justificată în contextul în care arta contemporană are şi un rol antropologic, devenind astfel un rezervor de amintiri, o arhivă şi un refugiu prin care istoria vorbeşte şi artiştii se implică activ în societate.

Proiectul Colorând griul – Al doilea val de artiști contemporani emergenți români („Colouring the Grey. Second wave of Romanian contemporary emerging artists”) a fost selectat în cadrul secţiunii Special Programs a celei de-a patra ediții a Bienalei Internaționale de Artă Contemporană de la Moscova (22.09-30.10.2011), de către curatorul Peter Weibel și comisarul Joseph Backstein.

Volumul-apărut în format bilingv RO/EN conține conceptul proiectului curatorial și șapte studii dedicate operelor artiștilor, alături de o selecție a corespondenței dedicate alcătuirii proiectului și de o secțiune de scurte biografii. Cartea oferă o generoasă inventariere a operelor celor șapte artiști români contemporani, fiind ilustrat cu peste 350 de reproduceri color.

Coloring the grey comprises in 240 pages richly illustrated the works of seven Romanian visual artists who have left their mark on the evolution of contemporary art in Romania in recent years.

Accompanying a project selected at the International Biennial of Contemporary Art in Moscow in 2011, the album is a must-read for all those interested in current Romanian art trends and how they are assimilated by the international art scene.

Coloring the gray is the result of five years of searching, documenting, monitoring and promoting the second wave of emerging contemporary artists in Romania, as the project’s curator, Cosmin Nasui, calls them in presenting the volume. Starting from the success of the realistic school of grays in Eastern Europe, the project aims to inventory, comment and put in context the work of seven contemporary Romanian artists who approached gray in their works: Ana Maria Micu, Dragoş Burlacu, Francisc Chiuariu, Cătălin Petrişor, Bogdan Raţa, Aurel Tar, Bela Zoltan.
Gray can be considered a characteristic of Romanian contemporary art, as well as a color of transition from communism to capitalism, a state of mind dominated by confusion, a symbol of the whole society, in search of identity. This preference denotes a justified choice in the context in which contemporary art also has an anthropological role, thus becoming a reservoir of memories, an archive and a refuge through which history speaks and artists are actively involved in society.

The project Coloring the gray – The second wave of Romanian contemporary emerging artists (“Coloring the Gray. Second wave of Romanian contemporary emerging artists”) was selected in the Special Programs section of the fourth edition of the International Biennial of Contemporary Art from Moscow (22.09-30.10.2011), by curator Peter Weibel and Commissioner Joseph Backstein.

The volume-published in bilingual format RO / EN contains the concept of the curatorial project and seven studies dedicated to the works of artists, along with a selection of correspondence dedicated to the composition of the project and a section of short biographies. The book offers a generous inventory of the works of the seven contemporary Romanian artists, being illustrated with over 350 color reproductions.
